No Illarra buy

Arsenal fans might be expecting Arsene Wenger to add another defensive-midfielder to the Emirates Stadium roster before the end of the summer transfer window, but that midfielder won’t be Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi.

Spanish newspaper Marca today claim that the Gunners are no longer interested in securing a deal for the 25-year-old - by way of not mentioning them at all - despite the fact he is widely expected to be sold by Real following their capture of Mateo Kovacic.

Instead it’s believed Liverpool are now the frontrunners for his signature, with the Reds having lodged a bid worth £10million.

It remains to be seen whether or not Los Blancos will accept that gambit, but in any case he won’t be heading to north London.

Double deal in the works?

Elsewhere wild speculation this morning has it pegged that Arsenal are in talks over deals for both Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot.

The Paris Saint-Germain duo are both unsettled at the Parc des Princes and with Arsene Wenger looking for purchases they may be astute buys. We’ll have more on the speculation as it comes through.

Benzema available?

Meanwhile Arsenal fans are salivating over the prospect of potentially landing Karim Benzema, after respected journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft tweeted that the Frenchman is available for purchase.

He went on to say that the Gunners were ‘sitting at the table’ but that Wenger hasn’t fully committed to the deal yet. Could Arsenal fans be treated to yet another blockbuster buy?
