Arsenal fans might be expecting Arsene Wenger to add another defensive midfielder to the Emirates Stadium roster before the end of the summer transfer window, but that midfielder won’t be Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi. Spanish newspaper Marca today claim that the Gunners are no longer interested in securing a deal for the 25-year-old, despite the fact he is widely expected to be sold by Real following their capture of Mateo Kovacic. Instead it’s believed Liverpool are now the frontrunners for his signature, with the Reds having lodged a bid worth £10million. It remains to be seen whether or not Los Blancos will accept that gambit, but in any case he won’t be heading to north London. Elsewhere wild speculation this morning has it pegged that Arsenal are in talks over deals for both Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot. The Paris Saint-Germain duo are both unsettled at the Parc des Princes and with Arsene Wenger looking for purchases they may be astute buys.
