Nicolas Otamendi has joined Manchester City from Valencia on a five-year contract, for a total fee of £32million.
The Argentine defender, capped 25 times for his country since 2009, was most recently part of the Argentina side that made the final of the Copa America.
At club level he has played for Velez Sarsfield in his home country, Porto, where he won three championships and the UEFA Europa League and Valencia, where he played part of last season after being loaned to Brazilian side, Atletico Mineiro.

His performances for Valencia were recognised positively, as he was part of the La Liga 2014/15 Team of the Season.
Otamendi plays primarily as a centre-back and will wear the number 30 shirt this season. Within the City squad he will be reunited with two former teammates from his Porto days in Fernando and Eliaquim Mangala, in addition to becoming the sixth Argentine within the first-team squad.
Good deal done
City manager Manual Pellegrini was full of praise after clinching his new signing. The Chilean said: “He’s strong, he’s excellent in the tackle and he’s very good technically.”
Meanwhile, speaking to City’s in-house TV channel, Otamendi said: “Signing for a club that looks wonderful from the outside, having now the opportunity to enjoy it from the inside. It’s a huge joy for me.”
City have made a strong start to the season and the acquisition of one of the best centre-backs in Europe will only strengthen a squad which has also been improved by the signings of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph.
