Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini insisted the referee was wrong to dismiss defender Marco Materazzi during their Champions League defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday.

The former Everton defender was sent off after receiving two yellow cards on his return to Merseyside as late strikes from Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard earned the hosts a 2-0 victory.

Mancini said: "I think the referee got both the yellow card decisions wrong. Neither were worthy of cautions and the sending-off changed the game."
