Manchester United are reported to have been in talks with Barcelona to express an interest in signing Neymar before the close of the summer transfer window.
It hardly takes a genius to work out that Neymar is a player Manchester United are keen on. Any club in the world would surely love to own a player of such tremendous talent.
However, The Sun report that the Old Trafford club do not just admire the Brazil international from afar, but have actually made initial moves to sign him. You have to appreciate the effort at the very least.

It is claimed that a ‘top Barcelona source’ has informed the British red top that Manchester United have made a ‘discreet approach’ for Neymar as they strive to recruit a marquee name as the transfer deadline nears.
Ed Woodward, it would seem, has been the master of deception yet again. Just when we thought his trips to Barcelona were an attempt to sign Pedro, it appears he had actually been trying to bring Neymar to Manchester.
So, now that Pedro has completed his transfer to Chelsea, will Manchester United acquire Neymar? Well, no, of course they won’t.
Last season, his second at the Camp Nou, Neymar was a pivotal part of a treble winning Barcelona side, scoring 39 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions. Does that sound like a player Barcelona would be willing to sell, or who would want to leave the club?
There is the suggestion that Neymar may consider leaving for Manchester United to emerge from the shadow of Lionel Messi and become an undisputed challenger for the Ballon d’Or. But surely that is just nonsense.
For what it’s worth, this is what the Barcelona source told The Sun, who ran the story on Saturday, but we would still be completely gobsmacked if this deal got anywhere at all.
“United are one of the biggest clubs in the world so it is right they should be chasing a player who has the potential to be the best player on the planet.”
