Lazio have made an official offer to take Arsenal’s Joel Campbell on a season-long loan, with the Italian club keen to secure the services of a new striker.
That’s according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Serie A outfit have launched an offensive for the Gunners’ forgotten man that might well prove successful.
Lazio have been linked with several forwards this summer, most notably Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli, but it appears that they now prefer a loan deal rather than stumping up the necessary millions it would require to buy an established goalscorer.

In any case it’s Campbell they’ve trained their sights on, and unless Arsene Wenger has an unforeseen plan up his sleeve fans have every right to be optimistic about a deal going through.
Campbell at Arsenal
Despite having impressed during the 2014 World Cup with Costa Rica, Campbell was given few opportunities to make an impact at his parent club last season, before being shipped off on loan to Villarreal.
In Spain he failed to make a lasting impression, scoring just once, prompting speculation that he might be cast out permanently by Wenger this summer.
Deal on the cards
However, though Arsenal would likely consider a deal if an offer was made, they’ll now have to contemplate leasing him out for yet another campaign.
Palermo are also thought to be considering a move for Campbell, and so the Gunners might be well served waiting for that proposal, with the winning party sure to be the one who Wenger believes can help the striker most with his development.
