Manchester United are preparing a world-record bid for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale in the final days of the transfer window and believe they stand a genuine chance of signing the Wales international if fans at the Bernabeu boo him in the club’s first home match of the season.
This is according to Steve Bates of the Sunday People, who understands that United boss Louis van Gaal is planning to swoop for the former Tottenham forward in the final 72 hours of the transfer window.
Real Madrid take on Real Betis in their first home game of the 2015-16 campaign on August 29, three days before the summer transfer window slams shut.

The report states that Old Trafford officials believe they stand a chance of signing Bale if Real Madrid supporters jeer the 26-year-old - as they did on occasions last season - in that match against Betis.
But although Manchester United are reportedly desperate to land Bale, who has scored 39 goals in 92 appearances for Los Blancos since arriving at the Bernabeu two summers ago, they would need to pay close to £100 million in order to bring him back to England.
Gareth Bale would be a phenomenal signing
The total outlay could be reduced, though, if United agree to use goalkeeper David de Gea as a makeweight in the deal.
Despite his struggles at Real Madrid last season, there’s little doubt that Bale would be a phenomenal signing for Manchester United.
The Welshman is capable of playing from either flank, in the No. 10 role or even as a centre-forward.
But Rafael Benitez is a big fan of Bale, as is Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, so it would take an extraordinary turn of events for this deal to happen late in the transfer window.
