Chelsea confirm signing of Kenedy

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old forward Kenedy from Brazilian outfit Fluminense.

The Blues announced the news - one of the worst-kept secrets of this transfer window - late on Saturday night via Twitter and their official website.

Kenedy featured for Chelsea in pre-season, against Barcelona, after Fluminense granted permission for the teenager to take part - but the transfer has now been finalised.

Chelsea have also confirmed that Kenedy will wear the number 16 shirt at Stamford Bridge - and the youngster expressed his delight after finally completing his move to the Premier League champions.

“I am very happy to complete my transfer to Chelsea,” the attacker told Chelsea’s official website. “It is an exciting time for me to join the English Premier League champions and I hope I can become an important player for the club.

Loan move makes sense for Kenedy

The left-footed forward, who is capable of playing on either flank or through the middle, will now have the opportunity to compete for a first-team place in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

However, with competition so intense at Stamford Bridge, it seems likely that the Brazil Under-20 international will spend time away from the club on loan this season.

Chelsea have paid a reported £6.3 million for the talented South American - a fee that could eventually look a bargain several years down the line.
