Manchester United star Juan Mata has admitted he left Old Trafford ‘enraged’ on Saturday after not having been able to help his side get three points against Newcastle United.
The Red Devils were held to a stalemate by their Tyneside opponents, with Newcastle coming close to etching it at certain stages of the game.
And, though the result ensured United continued their unbeaten start to the campaign and still have yet to concede a Premier League goal this term, Mata has inferred he and his teammates wanted more from the encounter.

“We weren’t able to get another three points in the Premier League,” Mata wrote in his personal blog.
“The goalless draw against Newcastle last Saturday left us with a bad taste; personally I think we deserved to win but that doesn’t count…
“In my opinion the team had spells of our best football so far this season, and we created enough chances to score at least one goal.
“From a personal point of view, I felt very comfortable and was able to participate a lot, but I went home enraged for not being able to win, same as my team-mates.”
United lacking something?
It’s fair to assume that most United fans will have been left wanting more after the opening three games of the season.
Though Louis van Gaal’s side have ground out results they haven’t looked all that convincing, and going forward they look to be lacking the services of a natural goalscorer.
Indeed most of the flack for United’s failure to bowl over opponents so far this season has fallen on Wayne Rooney’s shoulders, with the England captain yet to find the back of the net in four appearances.
The likes of Mata and Memphis Depay have thus far looked astute providers, but without someone to consistently put the ball in the back of the net - in the mould of Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa - United might suffer from having a blunt spearhead.
In any case they look to have the tools to comfortably place within the top four again this season, though whether or not they can go one better and challenge for the title may hinge on the possible purchase of a striker.
