Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has confirmed that he is to stay with his current club this summer rather than make a transfer to Manchester United.
Reports earlier on this year indicated that Louis van Gaal would potentially make an offer for the Holland international given the situation regarding David de Gea and Victor Valdes.
Both men could end up leaving Old Trafford by the end of the summer transfer window, with De Gea wanted by Real Madrid and Valdes now surplus to requirements.

However, the arrival of Sergio Romero appears to have negated the need for the addition of another stopper.
As a result the speculation regarding Cillessen looks to have been quelled, and the player himself has now provided a timely update. As relayed by NOS Sport, the 26-year-old said he had never received a formal proposition from United and expected to remain at Ajax.

"As far as I know it has never been an item," he said.
"I, the club, or my agent have never heard anything. As for me, this season begins and ends at Ajax."
Of course that situation could well change if United do lose both De Gea and Valdes. They still have Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone on their books, but Van Gaal is sure to favour a more experienced ‘keeper to contest the number one berth with Romero.
Future switch on?
Should De Gea end up sealing a move to Real then Cillessen may well become an option once more, and he’s unlikely to reject a move to reunite with Van Gaal if the opportunity is there.
Not only does the ‘keeper have a good relationship with the Dutchman from the latter’s time in charge of the Dutch national team but he might well be confident of ousting Romero were he to switch to Manchester.
Though the Argentina international has been the de facto first-choice since the start of the season he doesn’t yet sit in the world-class category for ‘keepers. In any case there’s certainly the possibility Cillessen could fight for his position if he were to be purchased.
