WWE: Did John Cena have the Divas Championship plans changed?

Published 52 Comments

Ever since Nikki Bella defeated AJ Lee at Survivor Series back in November, fans have been scratching their heads for almost a year to see who would finally be the one to dethrone the "Total Diva."

Charlotte looked like the most appropriate person to do so when she was finally called up to the main roster, but whilst it looks like WWE are still set to give the genetically superior diva a chance, exclusive backstage information suggests that WWE had plans for Charlotte but they were strangely changed.

The former NXT Champion was set to debut on the main roster and take the Divas title from the current second longest reigning champion but John Cena wasn't a fan of the plans so he went to Vince McMahon and had the plans changed in favour of his girlfriend.

This new information suggests that WWE never wanted Nikki to break AJ Lee's title reign record and it means that we could now see her lose her title on Raw in the weeks leading up to Night of Champions instead.

John Cena shouldn't have that amount of power over the Divas Division and the fact that he stopped what could have been a momentum shifting Divas Championship change as well has left the Divas revolution lacking direction.

Last night's three team elimination tag match was won by Team PCB after Brie Bella was pinned from a pump handle slam by Becky Lynch. Team B.A.D had been eliminated earlier in the match to continue a frustrating weekend for Sasha Banks after her NXT Women's Championship loss to Bayley at NXT Takeover on Saturday.

This leaves WWE with no real direction to take the women in because there was nothing really riding on last night's match. There needs to be a Divas Championship match tonight on Raw because Nikki has now gone more than 40 days without defending the title and both Sasha and Charlotte have a legitimate claim to the match.

There is a rumour that "something huge" could be happening on tonight's Raw but there are as yet no more details being released by WWE. The current feeling surrounding SummerSlam is that it failed to live up to the hype and this weekend belonged to NXT so WWE need to pull it out of the bag tonight if they have any hope of competing with the spectacle NXT has become.

Do you think John Cena should have that amount of power? What do you think will be the "huge" thing to happen on tonight's Raw? And do you agree NXT was better than SummerSlam? Use the comments section below to share your thoughts.
