Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale would be the ideal signing for his side, with the Welshman able to offer the pace, dynamism and unpredictability the Red Devils currently lack.
This is according to Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail, who claims Van Gaal recently spoke “in expansive terms” about the former Tottenham star with friends in a restaurant.
The report adds that if Van Gaal could choose one player from within Europe to sign before the summer transfer window closes next week it would be the 26-year-old who endured a difficult second season at the Bernabeu following his world-record move to the Spanish capital in 2013.

Although Manchester United are unlikely to sign the Welshman this summer - Real Madrid have no desire to offload the powerful forward - Van Gaal is reportedly confident of securing the former Southampton starlet’s services during his time at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal has two years left to run on his Manchester United contract - the same amount of time Bale has left on his current deal with Real Madrid.
Gareth Bale or Neymar?
It was reported at the weekend, by Steve Bates of the Sunday People, that United will make a dramatic swoop for Bale if fans boo him in Real Madrid’s first home match of the season against Real Betis this weekend.
Bale was often the target of Real Madrid fans’ ire last season, prompting speculation that he would seriously consider leaving the Bernabeu this summer.
There’s little doubt that Bale would be a fantastic signing for the Red Devils, who have also been linked with Barcelona forward Neymar in recent days.
