Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Brazilian ace Lucas Leiva is the club's best defensive-midfielder after the Reds secured a 0-0 draw at the Emirates against rivals Arsenal last night.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Rodgers, who was speaking to the press after an entertaining stalemate in north London, hailed the midfielder, claiming that he did a great job against the Gunners.
Rodgers' comments, then, may well come as a surprise, with the same report from the Mail claiming that the Reds agreed a loan deal with Turkish outfit Besiktas for the player's services last week.

In fact, the Liverpool chief insisted that Lucas is an important member of his squad, but the Mail claim that the midfielder is still set to depart Anfield sooner rather than later.
Speaking after last night's clash, Rodgers stated: "Lucas is our best defensive midfield player.
"There are games where I play three midfielders, but not always one specifically defensive. When we need that, he's the best we have.
"He came in tonight and did a great job. He's very much part of what we're trying to do, but every player wants to play every minute of every game. You can't guarantee that."
He should stay
Let's be honest, it's easier said than done, but Rodgers and Co. should attempt to persuade the Brazilian to stay on in Merseyside. Ultimately, against the Gunners last night, the 28-year-old produced a solid performance against the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, so he's clearly still good enough to star at the highest level.
And with the Reds set to participate in the Europa League this term, there's clearly enough games for the midfielder to participate in. Perhaps, though, it's too late, and Lucas is destined for a new challenge in the game.
