John Terry's red card against West Bromwich Albion will see him serve a one-game suspension - providing Chelsea do not appeal against the decision, and this would leave Jose Mourinho with a couple of different options.
The simple and straight-forward option is to replace the suspended centre back with the young and highly regarded Frenchman Kurt Zouma.
This option is less disruptive and doesn’t really change the emphasis or focus of the Chelsea defensive strategy. What Zouma lacks in top-flight experience he makes up for in pace, youthful enthusiasm and a lack of fear of making mistakes. He’ll also be coached and guided throughout the games by the experienced trio of Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta.

But with the early season form of both Cahill and Ivanovic being questioned by the press, a small section of fans and publicly by manager Mourinho in his press conference last week; is it time for a braver team selection in defence?
Moving current left-back Cesar Azpilicueta to his natural position of right full-back, alongside a centre back pairing of Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma, with new signing Baba Rahman coming in at left back would be a bold and exciting move.
This selection offers a huge increase in pace, as well as natural attacking options from both full backs overlapping and supporting the attacking quartet of Diego Costa, Pedro, Eden Hazard and
A brave selection that shouldn’t hold any fear for Mourinho and arguably more suited to the Premier League games rather than the Champions League, where Terry and Ivanovic's experience and qualities are more suited.
Plus what a statement to be made to the Chelsea squad that the two stalwarts of the very successful Chelsea defence last season are no longer “undroppable”.
With main title rivals Manchester City already 5 points ahead of Chelsea, early season form and results from Chelsea must improve immediately if they harbour hopes of retaining their Premier League title.
