West Bromwich Albion are in pole position to sign Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, but the player himself is holding out in favour of a move to Everton.
That’s according to information in the Daily Mail suggesting that the Northern Irishman is destined for the Old Trafford door - the only question at the moment is who his next club will be.
The forgotten man
Not since last season’s spitting debacle that saw him sent off against Newcastle United has Evans looked to have a place in Louis van Gaal’s plans and, despite the fact the club aren’t overloaded with centre-backs, the Dutchman looks set to cash in on the 27-year-old before September 1.

Both West Brom and Everton had shown interest in pursuing a deal, with Evans naturally an experienced, relatively cheap option who knows the Premier League well and therefore wouldn’t expect to have any teething problems.
Of the pair West Brom are believed to be further down the line with regards to potentially signing him, though the man himself is waiting to see if an offer is forthcoming from Goodison Park.
Whether or not it is may well hinge on the future of John Stones, who has been hotly tipped to make an incredible £40million move to Chelsea. If Roberto Martinez finally caves and sells him then he’ll need a replacement and Evans fits the bill.
Interestingly that might well cause Van Gaal to once more push up his recruitment drive for a new centre-back.
The Red Devils were linked with the likes of Mats Hummels and Sergio Ramos earlier this summer, though that trend appears to have died of late.
United fans, should Evans be sold this summer? Let us know in the comments box below what you think.
