Inter Milan are set to open transfer talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential deal for Argentinian winger Erik Lamela.

Lamela, 23, joined Tottenham in a reported £25.8million deal just two years ago from Italian club AS Roma, after a fantastic season which saw him score 15 league goals at only 21.

Since moving to England however, Lamela has struggled to recapture the form that won him his move, and has scored only two league goals for the club in as many years.

Spurs exit looming

Now Sky Sports claim that Inter Milan are willing to take a chance on the young winger, and offer him the chance to move back to the country and league where he made his name in Europe.

ESPN report that Inter are also interested in Wolfsburg’s Croatian international, Ivan Perisic.

They now view that deal as very unlikely however, given the strong interest being shown by various clubs in Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, and Wolfsburg’s desire to not let two key midfielder leave in the same window.

Lamela career highlights

Lamela first moved to Roma in 2011, in a £12 million transfer from Argentinian side River Plate, making 31 appearances in all competitions in his debut season for the club.

It was in his second season however that Lamela truly shone, scoring an impressive 15 league goals on his way to helping Roma to a sixth place finish in Serie A, as well as helping the club reach the Coppa Italia final; a game they eventually went on to lose to local rivals Lazio.
