Arsenal are prepared to make one last effort to bring in Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
This news comes just a day after long term Gunners target Karim Benzema dismissed the speculation surrounding his future on his personal twitter account, tweeting:
“For all those clowns who want to make believe things at my fans. Here this is my home! #HalaMadridYNadaMas - referring to his current club Real Madrid.

Reports in the the Mirror now suggest that having given up on Benzema, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has set his sights upon Cavani, a player he feels he has a more realistic chance of tempting to make the move to north London.
Despite his current club Paris Saint-Germain repeatedly stating he is not for sale, speculation around Cavani’s future persists as the Uruguayan continues to struggle to replicate the kind of form that persuaded the club to spend a reported £47 million on him in 2013.
Would he be tempted?
Cavani has also often found himself played out of position in his two years at the Parisian club, as they try to accommodate both him and Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović.
If Arsenal were to offer him a guaranteed starting spot in his more natural role up front, Cavani may yet still be convinced that any potential move away from the club would be in the best interests of his career.
Despite playing mainly on the left side of a front three, Cavani has still notched up an impressive 56 goals in only 96 games for Paris Saint-Germain. His record at previous club Napoli however was even more impressive, with the Uruguayan scoring an astonishing 104 goals in only 138 games.
