Arsenal interested in Edinson Cavani

Published 3 Comments

Arsene Wenger is looking to add to his squad after a slow start to the season. Arsenal lost their first game 2-0 to West Ham at home, then defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park before being held to a 0-0 draw to Liverpool at home on Monday evening.

Arsenal are in the market for a striker to bring goals to the Emirates and fire them to the title. They have been linked with Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon who was Ligue 1’s top goal scorer last season but were put off by his huge price tag.

Karim Benzema had also been heavily linked with a £50 million move to the Emirates but he has snubbed them and said these claims were false. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also been a target but has left his future in the hands of his agent.

What he offers

Edinson Cavani now looks to be the main man on Arsenal’s radar and a £40 million bid may tempt PSG into a deal. PSG have already signed Angel Di Maria for £44 million and may want to off load a star to balance the books.

Cavani would be a perfect fit for Arsenal and he is in the prime of his career. He has the pace and power to cause any defender problems and has also got great aerial ability. He is a potent finisher and would offer something completely different to Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck.

Arsenal are in need of a 25-goal striker after only managing to score two in three games so far this season.

Giroud is a good front man and suits the way Arsenal play but he is highly unlikely to hit more than 20 goals in the Premier League.

Welbeck can also be played up top too and offers something different to Giroud but he is not an out an out goal scorer; only managing eight goals last season.

Theo Walcott is also an option upfront and that is where he wants to be played but injury problems have ruled him out from getting a long run up there. He could easily notch 15 goals if he could stay fit but that would still not be enough for Arsenal to win the title.

Edinson Cavani is capable of hitting well over 20 goals and managed 27 for PSG last season in which he was fielded out wide in most games, playing second fiddle to main man, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. If he can score 27 goals out wide, down the centre, as the main striker for Arsenal he will score no end of goals.

Arsenal have built a really strong squad and are now willing to spend big if it will take them a step closer to winning the Premier League. They bought Alexis Sanchez for £35 million from Barcelona in July 2014 and bought Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42 million the year before that.

The team is now packed with superstars but look one player short and that player is a top class number nine, something they have lacked since the Robin van Persie sale. They need an accomplished goal scorer, a serious Golden Boot contender who can fire Arsenal to the title!
