After letting go of German international Sami Khedira and with Asier Ilarramendi set to join the same route out of Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid signed Mateo Kovacic from Inter Milan.

Hence with Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Mateo Kovacic and Casemiro competing for first-team action, manager Rafael Benitez deems Lucas Silva surplus to requirements.

The news has generated major interest among Premier League sides with Southampton, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all keen to finalise a deal, according to Express.

Arsenal were the one battling Real Madrid in January for Silva but are now open to securing a loan move this transfer window.

Silva wants more opportunities but feels any move to Manchester United and Chelsea might endure him the same fate as at Madrid, so joining United or The Blues looks highly unlikely.

Ligue 1 move

However, Spanish newspaper AS reports French side Olympique Marseille remains the preferred destination of Silva who seems happy with the prospect of a potential move to France.

The 22-year-old made eight appearances in La Liga last term and former manager Carlo Ancelotti was an admirer of the midfielder.

The Brazilian would want to stay in Spain but all feasible offers have come from clubs abroad till now.

Contracted with Los Blancos until 2020, as claimed by Transfermarkt.com, a loan move elsewhere would benefit him in the long run for his future with Real Madrid.
