Manchester United are aiming to sign at least one more player before the end of the transfer window and have now turned their attention to Benfica winger, Nicolas Gaitan.
According to the Daily Star, manager Louis van Gaal has instructed club authorities to bring in super-agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate the deal.
Mendes doesn’t represent Gaitan but will be designated to mediate the deal, a role similar to what he played for another Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi who joined rivals Manchester City just days ago.

The Argentine midfielder has been on The Red Devils’ radar in recent seasons with Sir Alex Ferguson the first to be keen on signing him while his successor David Moyes tried to lure him to Old Trafford but nothing materialised back then.
Dubai based club Al Ahli offered a bumper contract to Gaitan this summer but he is still inclined to join one of the European giants and hence rejected the move, as reported by talkSPORT.
The 27-year-old has a release clause of £24.5million which has deterred other suitors like Atletico Madrid and Valencia but United won’t have any difficulties in matching the valuation.
Contracted until 2018 with Benfica, Gaitan is astute at playing on either flanks as well as a central attacking role which would bring depth and dynamics to the United roster.
The architect of Benfica’s back-to-back title wins in Portuguese Primiera Liga, Gaitan feels it is the right time to leave Estadio da Luz for pastures new.
After five successful seasons in the Portuguese capital making over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions scoring 30 goals, Gaitan could be Premier League bound this summer.
