In fact, the former Bayern man produced a wonderful moment as his fine through ball found Ander Herrera, who scored United's fourth and final goal of the evening in the thumping win.
The experienced midfielder, having only started on one occasion for his new side so far this term, will no doubt be hoping to cement a regular role in Manchester sooner rather than later.
A fine coup
There's no doubt about it, despite a number of sporadic performances so far, Schweinsteiger will prove a fine coup for Louis van Gaal and Co. if he manages to reach full fitness.
Ultimately, he really can still prove himself as one of the leading midfielders in world football this season, so it would be foolish to write him off.
Perhaps, though, he would thrive in a midfield trio, which should include Ander Herrera. Schweinsteiger needs someone to make the runs from the middle of the park, and he - as proven last night - will have no problem in picking the pass.
