Manchester United have agreed a deal to sell Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes to Turkish side Besiktas.

According to reports in Sky Sports, the two clubs have agreed a deal for the former Barcelona goalkeeper, and the deal now hinges on whether current Besiktas manager Senol Gunes agrees to complete the deal.

Despite only being at United for a little over six months, the Spaniard has been told to find a new club after reportedly refusing to play for United’s under 21 side.

Injury recovery

Before signing an 18-month deal with United in January 2015, Valdes had been offered the chance to complete his rehabilitation process with the English club, after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in his final season for Barcelona.

After recuperating from his knee injury, and with United’s other Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea injured in the penultimate game of last season, Valdes came on as a substitute for his first United appearance, before starting their final game of the season.

Illustrious career

Despite being touted as United’s replacement for popular, but seemingly outbound ‘keeper David De Gea, Valdes’ United future was brought into question during United’s pre-season tour, after Louis van Gaal claimed Valdes has refused to play for the clubs under 21 side whilst still coming back from his long term injury.

Before joining United, Valdes has previously spent his whole career at Spanish side Barcelona, making 535 appearances for their first team in all competitions and claiming 21 major trophies along the way (including 6 La Liga titles and 3 Champions League winners’ medals).

Valdes was also part of the Spanish national team that won both the 2010 World Cup and 2012 UEFA European Championship. To date, Valdes has been capped 20 times by Spain.
