Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo posted a photo of himself sleeping on a private jet via Instagram after losing out to Barcelona rival Lionel Messi in the voting for UEFA’s Best Player in Europe award.
Ronaldo looked visibly irritated on stage after losing out to Messi - a video, which you can see by scrolling down this page, suggests the three-time Ballon d’Or winner was not impressed by the outcome - and chose not to applaud the Barcelona star on social media afterwards.
Instead, the 30-year-old posted a photo of himself asleep on a private jet from Monaco to Madrid, with the caption: “✈️💤💤💤💤💤”

Ronaldo will be even more perturbed when he discovers that he finished third in the voting for UEFA’s Best Player in Europe award, behind both Messi and his Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez.
In fact, Ronaldo picked up just two votes - according to Catalan newspaper Sport - and one of them came from a Portuguese compatriot. Suarez only secured one more vote than the former Manchester United star, while Messi was the runaway winner with 49 of the 54 votes.
Messi now likely to win fifth Ballon d'Or
Ronaldo may have been annoyed with the outcome because he knows Messi is now the overwhelming favourite to win the 2015 Ballon d’Or award in January.
The Portuguese star has made no secret of the fact he wants to finish his career as the greatest footballer of all time, but it’s hard to imagine him matching Messi’s Ballon d’Or tally if the Argentine is successful once again this season.
Messi is likely to win a record-breaking fifth Ballon d’Or in the New Year, putting him two ahead of Ronaldo, who is approaching the end of his peak years as a footballer.
