Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has confirmed that forward Adnan Januzaj picked up an injury in midweek.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of this Sunday's Premier League showdown with Welsh outfit Swansea City, the Red Devils chief confirmed that the talented youngster will miss the game against Garry Monk's side.

Januzaj, despite missing the club's opening-day victory over Tottenham at the start of this month, has started in the club's last four games in all competitions. The Belgian international, of course, scored the winner as the Red Devils beat Aston Villa at Villa Park a couple of weeks ago.

Now, though, it appears that Januzaj will have to spend some time out on the sidelines, but it remains to be seen as to whether he will make a speedy recovery.

Of course, in midweek, as Manchester United beat Club Brugge, Van Gaal replaced Januzaj with German international Bastian Schweinsteiger, so the Red Devils chief could yet hand the former Bayern man a starting role on Sunday.

Huge season ahead

There's no doubt about it, it's unfortunate for Januzaj that he's picked up an injury at this time. Ultimately, he's enjoyed a decent start to the season under Van Gaal, but may now have to work hard to regain his place.

One thing's for sure, though, the Belgian forward will have a role to play in Manchester throughout the course of the season. With the club hoping to make an impact on both the domestic and European scene, Januzaj will no doubt play his part.

Of course, he still has a long way to go before becoming a top player, but he's starting to show signs that he can produce the goods for the Red Devils.
