Chelsea could sign these defenders before the transfer deadline (1)

Premier League champions Chelsea have begun the season in a rather unconvincing manner and manager Jose Mourinho has identified the reason why: the Blues have conceded seven goals in three games.

Pretty obvious, really.

The Special One feels the need to add one more defender to the roster before the transfer window closes this summer. Their prime transfer target Everton centre-back John Stones will not be allowed to leave Goodison Park at any price, that is what The Toffees manager Roberto Martinez reckons.

Chelsea tabled three bids before Stones handed the club authority a transfer request which in turn got turned down. Reports claim the Blues’ fourth bid of £38 million has also been rebuffed.

Chelsea now are set end their pursuit of the England Under-21 star and look elsewhere but time is clearly running out with Tuesday's deadline fast approaching.
