Arsenal are set to make a late move for Leicester City striker Riyad Mahrez according to the Telegraph.
The 24-year-old has had a lightning quick start to the season with four goals in as many Premier League games so far, and that has reportedly attracted the interest of the Gunners.
So far the north London club have only completed one major deal in the current window - a £10 million swoop for goalkeeper Petr Cech - however the pressure is on boss Arsene Wenger after an uneven start to the season.
The 1-0 win over 10-man Newcastle yesterday thanks to a Fabricio Coloccini own goal was Arsenal's second win of the campaign, and they currently sit in fifth place overall.
Real Madrid ace Karim Benzema has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium however he's staying put at the Bernabeu, and now it seems Wenger has moved on to a an alternative target.
The Telegraph report that Mahrez has been linked with a £5 million switch to Roma in the past but now Arsenal could swoop in, despite the fact that the Leicester ace has recently penned a new contract at the King Power stadium.
The Gunners are hopeful that their financial might will help them get a deal done before the window closes in order to bolster their striker ranks.
As it stands Danny Welbeck is out of action through injury and Alexis Sanchez is still finding his way back to full fitness, which has blunted Arsena's goalscoring prowess. Jack Wilshere is also currently out of action.
“I can’t predict what will happen," Wenger said when asked about the transfer window. “I am optimistic and we’re working on it.
“We have Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere out and you always want to add goalscorers to your squad.”
