Arsenal star Olivier Giroud has admitted that he would have liked the club to have signed Karim Benzema this summer.
Quotes today relayed by the Daily Mirror, delivered by the Frenchman himself, see him admitting that the Gunners would have benefitted from his compatriot’s arrival, despite the fact it was never really on the cards.
Over the course of the past few weeks Benzema has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Emirates Stadium, though he recently posted a now infamous Instagram message to all but rule out a departure from Real Madrid.

Meanwhile Arsenal’s indifferent start in the Premier League, one that has seen them fail to impress in front of goal, has left fans wanting Arsene Wenger to bring in a striker. Put two and two together and you have a longing for Benzema.
It’s one that Giroud apparently shares, as he told sources that he would have liked his international teammate to join.
"It is obvious that in a club, a team, where a lot is expected, we need several good attackers and I understand that the fans want that we spend more money.
"It is not up to me to answer this question, the coach knows very well what he is doing, and sometimes you should not buy just to buy, and sometimes there are not players out there that you need, who are available.
"We have a very good squad, with quality, and I am sure that with this squad we can go very far.
"Aside from that, it would have been good if Karim had signed too, eh?"
The likelihood of Wenger luring Benzema to north London before tomorrow is extremely low, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a chance to launch a late bid for another forward target.
Following the narrow victory over Newcastle, one that came courtesy of an own goal, Arsenal look like they need more firepower if they’re to be title contenders. Who might add that to their fold is anyone’s guess.
