The 24-year-old Holland international confirmed at the weekend that he will not be extending his contract, which is due to expire in 2010.
That deal includes a release clause allowing him to leave in 2009 for 1.5 million euros and Hamburg now look set to cash in on their highly-rated playmaker, with chairman Bernd Hoffman saying: "His decision does not catch us unprepared. We have been planning on two fronts for a while now and had many positive discussions with Rafael."
