Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed that Wayne Rooney did not know who AS Monaco striker Anthony Martial was prior to this weekend.
United are poised to complete a shock £36 million deal for the 19-year-old Martial, who will become the most expensive teenager of all time.
But Rooney, like the majority of people in England, was unaware of the forward before news broke that Manchester United were on the verge of bringing him to Old Trafford for an extortionate fee.

"To be honest, yesterday [Sunday] on the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak," Schneiderlin told reporters, according to Goal, at France's training base at Clairefontaine.
"I told him he's a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the the beginning of this.
"I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Thierry Henry, even if it's the press who are making that comparison."
Anthony Martial: The real deal?
The Thierry Henry comparison is certainly generous on Martial, the France Under-21 international who has achieved very little in his short career so far.
Martial has scored an average 15 goals in 68 appearances for AS Monaco but will be expected to hit the ground running at Old Trafford.
While Martial is clearly one for the future, the fact Manchester United are poised to pay so much money for his services means fans will be expectant from day one.
