Sevilla is never an easy place to go, having only lost once at home in the whole of last season in all competitions. However, this feat did not worry Atletico Madrid who beat the home side 3-0 in convincing fashion.
Atletico demonstrated so many traits that are vital when it comes to mounting a serious challenge for the title this year and arguably put in the performance of the weekend across the league.
Diego Simeone set up his team so that they were defensively solid and that had some creativity in the final third, as well as having many options on the bench.

Koke got the game off to the perfect when he prodded home an effort following fine work from Antoine Griezmann.
Tireless midfielder Gabi scored late in the second half and then new summer signing Jackson Martinez finished the game after replacing Fernando Torres.
Solid all over the pitch
Atletico looked incredibly solid at the back, thanks to centre-back pairing Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez. The compatriots certainly had their hands full with striker Fernando Llorente, yet the pair handled the big man expertly and surely won’t face a tougher night than that for a while.
The midfield of Tiago and Gabi were nothing short of superb, with the two veterans breaking up play, making great tackles and protecting their back-four in style. If these two can maintain the performance levels they demonstrated against Sevilla then this could be a promising season for Atletico fans.
Simeone will be pleased that although Fernando Torres once again had another disappointing night, he still has a number of options on the bench that are both exciting and dangerous in attack.
Martinez got off the mark for his new side, while Luciano Vietto was an unused substitute, but it will only be a matter of time before Simeone starts to integrate the talented attacker who impressed at Villarreal so much last season.
Atletico can win La Liga again
Next up for Atletico are current champions Barcelona, who have struggled to find the form that made them so impressive last campaign. If Simeone can set up his side like he did against Sevilla then this could be a very interesting and pivotal game.
Atletico have demonstrated they are solid in the defence and midfield, whilst having a number of attacking players which can damage any side on the break - which was something that lacked last year.
As long as Simeone does not continue to select Fernando Torres as his main striker this season then Atletico will surely be close to the title once again.
