Chelsea have had two bids for Marquinhos rejected

Chelsea have had two bids for Paris Saint-Germain star Marquinhos rejected, according to Sky Sports News.

With just hours remaining in the transfer window, it appears that the west London outfit have attempted to secure the signature of the Brazilian ace, who is recognised as one of the leading young defenders in Europe.

At just 21-years of age, the PSG defender has gone from strength-to-strength in recent time, but it appears that the French moneybags aren't willing to let the talented youngster move to Stamford Bridge in the coming hours.

Chelsea, of course, have been on the lookout for additions in the defensive department after seemingly failing to land John Stones from Everton earlier on in this window.

The Blues have, however, signed Papy Djilobodji from Nantes, while it also appears that they're closing in on the signing of Reading defender Hector for £4 million.

Final blow

Let's be honest, Jose Mourinho and Co. won't be entirely happy that the club haven't added a top name to the heart of their defence in this transfer window.

Of course, they were seemingly intent on signing Stones from Everton, but perhaps they should have looked at alternatives earlier on this summer. Marquinhos would have no doubt been a fine signing for the club, but it now appears extremely unlikely that they will secure his services anytime soon.

Mourinho will now be hoping that the likes of John Terry and Kurt Zouma step up, as the club go in search of retaining their title this season.
