WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin has said having celebrities wrestle is embarrassing to the company.
Whilst speaking on The Steve Austin Show, The Texas Rattlesnake reflected on the WWE bringing in celebrity Stephen Amell to wrestle alongside Neville in a match against Stardust and King Barrett. He said he didn’t like the fact The Green Arrow was brought in at all.
He said: “I just don’t like the celebrities coming in there, the squared circle, and being able to compete at any level with the guys in the [professional wrestling] business. You’ve got to protect some integrity of the [professional wrestling] business. I don’t care what day and age, what year it is.”

Austin said he had a hard time watching the match, and he felt embarrassed watching them wrestle in the squared circle. He said: “It was what it was, but I just got a hard time seeing that kid come off with that crossbody [block] on the top rope on two WWE guys down there [on the floor].
“So was it embarrassing? You’re damn right it was, but for the wrong reasons and the reasons [were] bad booking. It was for a shoot embarrassing to those guys to have to go out there and do that with the actor guy involved, but that’s on a shoot level, so it was an embarrassment to the booking and I felt bad for those guys because they were in that role.”
I have to agree with Austin, the match was a bit embarrassing to watch from a fan point. Celebrities come into the WWE for a match merely for the entertainment value which is a shame.
It’s understanding that this is the direction the company is going in because the WWE is now referred to as Sports Entertainment, but when you’re not providing the chance to entertain to upcoming wrestlers trying to prove themselves, it can damage the business. It affects the talent available in the future.
