There was much and more said about Manchester United’s potential purchases over the course of the summer window; we’ll be the first to admit it got pretty confusing. Quotes this morning though allow us to clear one thing up, and that’s that the Red Devils did make a huge bid for Thomas Muller. Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has claimed that his club received an offer from the Louis van Gaal, describing it as involving ‘figures that were very high indeed’. He also said that were he a bank manager he’d have accepted it. Unfortunately for United, he’s not. From one chief to the next and Florentino Perez has also weighed in on United’s transfer endeavours, claiming Real Madrid were aware of interest from Old Trafford in Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos. Not just wide-of-the-mark paper talk then, it would seem.
