Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has denied the club’s star player Cristiano Ronaldo is currently unhappy at the Bernabeu - and claims the Portuguese star is simply frustrated because of his lack of goals at the start of this season.

In an interview with ‘El Larguero’ - and brought to our attention by Spanish newspaper Marca - Perez admitted that Ronaldo is “obsessed with goals”.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has scored more than 50 goals in all competitions in each of his previous five seasons, failed to find the back of the net in either the 0-0 draw against Sporting Gijon or last weekend’s 5-0 win over Real Betis.

And Perez believes his lack of recent success in front of goal is the reason for his questionable body language, rather than any issue with the club or new manager Rafael Benitez.

"Cristiano Ronaldo isn't annoyed,” Perez stated. “He wants to score goals and gets angry with himself when he doesn't. He's just obsessed with goals".

But Perez has no doubts that the 30-year-old will return to his prolific best soon, adding: "Cristiano just works harder to put them away. Whenever we've needed him, Cristiano has been there.”

Real Madrid must win silverware this season

One suspects that Perez and Benitez wouldn’t care if Ronaldo finished the season with 20 goals in all competitions, as long as Real Madrid finished the season with silverware.

There is a real desire to win La Liga at the Bernabeu this season after watching fierce rivals Barcelona lift all three major trophies last term.

Benitez certainly has the talent at his disposal, but he will stand a much better chance of finishing the season with silverware if he can get Ronaldo firing again.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo score fewer than 50 goals in all competitions this season? Have your say by leaving a comment in the box below!
