Wayne Rooney did not know who Anthony Martial was before last weekend - but the Manchester United captain is confident his new teammate will succeed at Old Trafford.
Martial said it was perfectly “normal” that Rooney didn’t know who he was, but Rooney seemed to remember something he’d seen from last season when asked about the teenager in England’s pre-match press conference earlier today.

"It's been well documented I haven't seen that much of him to be honest, so I can't really say too much on him," Rooney was quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.
"I saw him last season against Arsenal where he had a fantastic game, so hopefully he'll be a great signing for us. He's got a lot of ability from what I've seen and I'm sure he'll be a good player for us."
Martial to make United debut v Liverpool
Indeed, Martial did produce a decent performance against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League knockout stages last season.
The raw striker was able to showcase his strength and, in particular, his tremendous pace. At one point during the match he left Hector Bellerin, supposedly the Gunners’ fastest player, chasing his shadow with a blistering run down the middle of the pitch.
Manchester United fans are eager to catch their first glimpse of Martial after the international break.
He is set to be handed his United debut against Liverpool - and what better way to endear himself to the Red Devils faithful than a goal against his new side’s fiercest rivals?
