Barcelona star Andres Iniesta has admitted he wishes Victor Valdes was currently with the Spain international squad as they prepare for matches against Slovakia and Macedonia.
The ex-Barcelona stopper, frozen out at Manchester United, wasn’t selected by Vicente del Bosque for Spain’s next two fixtures in the European Championship qualifiers, despite the fact club teammate David de Gea, who hasn’t featured at all this season, was.
Del Bosque himself recently confirmed that he had considered Valdes as a way of picking up the goalkeeper’s spirits, and Iniesta has now added that it’s a shame he was ultimately left out.

"I would have liked to see Valdes here, because he's in a difficult situation for a while," Iniesta said, as per Sport.
Future for Valdes
Just what the future holds for the former Barcelona fan favourites remains to be seen, but it can be safely assumed that he won’t be playing at Old Trafford again anytime soon.
The root of the issue between Valdes and Louis van Gaal is apparently the former’s refusal to play for United’s U21 side last season, though he himself refuted that suggestion on Twitter.
Competition for places
In any case, with Sergio Romero having now arrived and De Gea’s move to Real Madrid having fallen through, Van Gaal has two reputable ‘keepers ahead of Valdes in the pecking order.
The 33-year-old was thought to have been close to a move to Turkey during the summer transfer window, perhaps it would have been in his best interests to seal that before the deadline.
