Chelsea tried to steal Manchester United's deal for French teenager Anthony Martial according to the Sunday Times.
The 19-year-old became the most expensive teenager of all time when the Red Devils forked out an initial £36 million, which could rise to £58 million in add-ons, on deadline day.
Louis van Gaal and Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward were criticised for their approach to the transfer window which concluded with the deal for Martial, however now it's being claimed the Chelsea were wiling to fork out the same sizeable fee for Martial as well.

The Sunday Times claim that, having snatched winger Pedro from Manchester United, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was keen on doing the same with Martial as well.
The paper claims that the reigning Premier League champions were willing to match the fee paid by the Red Devils, only to be informed that the offer was too late and the deal was closed.
The Sunday Times also add that there's a chance that Manchester United could end up paying an incredible €90 million - around £66 million - for Martial if he is nominated as one of the three best players in the world for the Ballon d'Or.
“It’s absolutely unique,” said Monaco chief executive Vadim Vasilyev of deal. “It’s the price of Luis Suarez or Neymar — the best players in the world.”
If Manchester United do end up paying that fee then it would exceed the club record fee they forked out for Angel di Maria last year. Chelsea's decision to try and match that fee is said to have come about because their scouting system flagged up Martial as a potential signing, however the Red Devils' offer prompted Monaco to sell up a year earlier than they had planned.
