Valencia coach Ronald Koeman was left with mixed emotions after seeing his 10-man side produce a fine performance against Schalke but ultimately found themselves dumped out of the Champions League.

Valencia were always up against it after losing captain David Albelda to a red card after just 32 minutes, but Los Che still gave a great account of themselves in the 0-0 draw at the Mestalla which means they can now no longer get a top-two place in Group B.

Despite the setback of being knocked out of the competition, Koeman was able to take some positives from the match, saying: "From what I have seen in the second half, we have lost two points despite playing with one man less. The team have given a good account of themselves and we have had the better chances, three of them very clear."
