Chelsea's summer interest
In the end Anthony Martial’s move to Old Trafford this summer was perhaps the biggest deal that took place. In any case it was certainly the most shocking given the fee paid.
However, it’s now said that Chelsea made an attempt at hijacking said transfer, as Jose Mourinho plotted a last minute bid himself.
The Sunday Times claim that the Blues made an enquiry for the 19-year-old with a view to purchasing him next summer, but that by the time Roman Abramovich had decided he wanted to match United’s offer, it was already too late.
Mourinho may have managed to lure Pedro out of Louis van Gaal’s grasp, but the Dutchman won the battle regarding Martial.
In keeping with that subject other news today focuses on Remi Garde’s thoughts on the young striker.
The ex-Lyon boss, who used to coach Martial, revealed how there were many things he had to improve on, including his physicality, but predicted he would become a success in time.
That seems to be the theme many are sticking with when it comes to Martial’s potential, but since Garde has worked with him in a professional capacity before, we’ll lend our ears to what he’s saying.
Pogba on Martial
Finishing off today’s Martial-centric report, Paul Pogba has revealed the special nickname he has for the player, describing him as the ‘young old man’ because he’s already so mature for his age.
The pair are teammates on the international scene, with Pogba stating that he has a huge amount of potential moving forward.
