Anthony Martial makes second France appearance against Serbia

Published 3 Comments

New Manchester United signing Anthony Martial featured on the international stage for just the second occasion last night, as he replaced Mathieu Valbuena in France's 2-1 victory over Serbia.

Martial, who made his debut for Les Bleus against Portugal last week, was once again handed a cameo role by manager Didier Deschamps.

In fact, Martial was only called upon for the final 15 minutes - and he once again looked sharp throughout the proceedings.

Despite failing to make a real impact on the game, the now Red Devils forward certainly didn't shy away, often looking to get on the ball and produce the goods for his country.

And now, with Manchester United set to play host to rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday, the exciting teenager will head to Manchester to train with his teammates for the first time.

Individual highlights

Happy Martial

Martial, then, is seemingly determined to prove his credentials at Old Trafford sooner rather than later, as he goes in search of a place in France's squad for next summer's European Championships.

When speaking after last night's clash, the talented forward, as reported by the Mirror, stated: “I hope for regular call-ups by playing well for my club.

“It is a great honour. It was a bit like the Champions League, there was a lot of intensity. I gave what was necessary. And we won. That is the most important thing. I could not be more happy.

“Of course it is different from with the U21s and the youth teams but I am very happy to be here.”

Platform to succeed

One thing's for sure, over the course of the next few years in Manchester, Martial most definitely has the platform to prove himself  in the Premier League.

Under the guidance of Louis van Gaal, there's no reason why the versatile teenager won't go on to become a top player, but he must now work hard in order to become one of the leading stars in European football.
