The nature of Twitter means that, in a matter of seconds, you can relay a random thought to the entire world at the click of a button.
And when you have over 72 thousand followers, as is the case for Chicago Bears wide receiver Eddie Royal, sometimes that can cause an awkward situation - misinterpretation a surprisingly easy outcome in the space of 140 characters.
Unfortunately for Royal, crossed wires last night just so happened to lead many to assume he was taking a shot at his new team's much maligned quarterback, Jay Cutler - forcing him to delete the Tweet in question.

The incident came as Royal was watching the Ohio State versus Virginia Tech game - a match up that saw quarterbacks Cardale Jones and Braxton Miller star for the Buckeyes.
Clearly impressed, Royal tweeted the following:
The Twittersphere were quick to jump to the conclusion that Royal was taking a shot at Jay Cutler - a quarterback who's struggles on the field in recent seasons are well documented.
Not as it seems
Unfortunately, those hoping for a Chicago Bears locker room meltdown missed out on the fact that Eddie Royal played his college football at Virginia Tech. His Tweet, therefore, likely a despairing message for his old school rather than his new NFL franchise.
Had Eddie Royal been calling out Cutler it certainly wouldn't have fit the context of the receiver's arrival in Chicago.
Having enjoyed a successful spell together at the Denver Broncos back in 2008 there has been much talk about the quarterback and wide receiver rekindling the connection in the 2015 NFL season.
