Liverpool were keen on securing the services of French defender Lucas Digne this summer, or so reports were readily suggesting.
Unfortunately for Brendan Rodgers the former Paris Saint-Germain star opted for Serie A giants AS Roma, and he’s now explained exactly why he snubbed the other offers on the table.

The 22-year-old revealed that playing in the Champions League was a major factor, something that the Reds can’t offer his season, and also talked up his connection with Rudi Garcia.
“Both the Roma fans and my teammates have welcomed me really well,” Digne told Canal Football Club, as per the Daily Express.
“I was pleased to be immediately put at ease by my teammates, they gave me confidence and have joked around with me from day one.
"Rudi Garcia has played an important role because I know him from Lille, he really wanted me at Roma.
“Other teams also wanted me but I quickly chose Roma, playing in the Champions League was a big factor.”
It makes sense to assume that the left-back was wanted as competition for Joe Gomez, particularly since Alberto Moreno hasn’t really had a look in this year.
Clyne's rallying cry
Meanwhile, Nathaniel Clyne has issued a rallying cry to his teammates ahead of the Reds’ important fixture against Manchester United this weekend.
Last time out Liverpool were humbled 3-0 by West Ham at home, and Clyne said his team needed to be at their opponents’ throats if they were to get anything from their next Premier League game.
Rounding off our report it’s over to Brazilian midfielder Lucas - heavily linked of course with a summer move away from Anfield.
The man himself has now confirmed that he was ‘very close’ to waving Merseyside goodbye in the summer, in favour of a new club, but that he had the utmost commitment to the team now.
