Liverpool were keen on securing the services of French defender Lucas Digne this summer, or so reports were readily suggesting. Unfortunately for Brendan Rodgers the former Paris Saint-Germain star opted for Serie A giants AS Roma, and he’s now explained exactly why he snubbed the other offers on the table. The 22-year-old revealed that playing in the Champions League was a major factor, something that the Reds can’t offer this season, and also talked up his connection with Rudi Garcia. It makes sense to assume that the left-back was wanted as competition for Joe Gomez. Meanwhile Nathaniel Clyne has issued a rallying cry to his teammates ahead of the Reds’ important fixture against Manchester United this weekend. Last time out Liverpool were humbled 3-0 by West Ham at home, and Clyne said his team needed to be at their opponents’ throats.
