Arsenal completing the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo. It might be the stuff of lucid Gunners dreams, but at one point in time it was a fairly conceivable concept.
The Daily Mirror today offer an insight into just how close the financial crisis involving the club’s move to the Emirates Stadium came to disabling them, with it ultimately being the reason they couldn’t sign Ronaldo.
The Portuguese forward visited the north London giants’ training ground before signing for Manchester United in 2003, but the sad state of affairs meant that Arsene Wenger didn’t have the money to sign him from Sporting Lisbon.
