No Gerrard return?
MLS commissioner Don Garber might well have shattered the hopes of many Liverpool fans by confirming that Steven Gerrard is unlikely to make a loan return to Anfield this January.
It’s been rumoured that the Merseyside legend could follow in the footsteps of the likes of David Beckham and Thierry Henry in returning to Europe for a short spell during the MLS off-season, but Garber said he hadn’t heard that it was being contemplated.
“I don't think so. And I had not heard that was something that was being contemplated," Garber said on the matter.
It’s safe to assume Liverpool fans would be split on the prospect anyway; sometimes it’s better to just move on and let it go.
Ilori's Villa admission
In other news, Thiago Ilori has admitted he’s relieved at having moved to Aston Villa on loan. The youngster completed a last minute departure from Anfield in the summer transfer window, and is happy that he’ll now get his chance to appear in England’s top flight.
Despite having moved to Liverpool in 2013, he hasn’t featured at all for Brendan Rodgers’ first-team. He’s so far been loaned out to Spanish outfit Granada and Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
Benteke the bully
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said he expects Christian Benteke to bully Daley Blind when Liverpool take on their Mancunian opponents this weekend.
Ferdinand described Blind as a weak link in Louis van Gaal’s side, and suggested that Benteke target the Dutchman if he wants to have a profitable time on Saturday.
Benteke has started his Reds career in good form, but only has the one goal to his name at the moment.
