Heerenveen coach Gertjan Verbeek has hit out at media speculation linking prolific striker Afonso Alves with a move away from the Eredivisie club.

Premier League outfit Manchester City have reportedly asked for permission to speak to Alves over a possible switch during the January transfer window, while Dutch club AZ Alkmaar are also in the running to secure the Brazilian´s services.

However, in an interview with Voetbal International magazine Verbeek insisted that the transfer talk is premature saying: "The transfer window hasn´t even opened yet but the stream of reports are under way already. It´s no fun, but that´s how it is."
