Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper David de Gea has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
As reported by the club's official site, the Spanish international, who was heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid throughout the course of the summer, has signed on for the next four years at Old Trafford.
In fact, the club have announced that there is an option to extend the deal by a further year, meaning the shot-stopper will now stay on in Manchester for the long-term.

And, with the deal confirmed, De Gea has insisted that he's delighted to start a 'new chapter' with the Red Devils.
The 'keeper stated: “I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career. I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans.
"Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career. I’m looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and concentrating on working hard to improve and help my teammates to be successful.”
United chief Louis van Gaal is also seemingly pleased with the deal, claiming that De Gea is one of the 'best goalkeepers in world football.'
The United boss stated: “I am absolutely delighted David has signed a new contract. He is one of the best goalkeepers in world football. I am very pleased that he will be part of the team for many years to come.
"David made a very important contribution to our performance last season and he has been the club’s Player of the Year for the last two seasons. He is a popular player who is keen to learn and enhance his game. At such a young age for a goalkeeper, he has many years ahead of him.”
Ultimately, it's incredible news for all involved with Manchester United that this transfer saga has now been put to bed. At the end of the day, the Spanish international has been remarkable for the club over the course of the last couple of years, so there's no reason why he won't be able to continue to prove his credentials on English soil.
One thing's for sure, Louis van Gaal and Co. must now look to get De Gea back out on the pitch sooner rather than later. With the Red Devils set to play host to rivals Liverpool tomorrow evening, it's seemingly the ideal time to reinstate the club's back-to-back Player of the Year between the sticks.
