Steven Gerrard has revealed how he once suffered a particularly painful injury playing for Liverpool against Bournemouth - the Kop legend required stitches after cutting his penis.
The Merseyside icon departed Liverpool for MLS this summer, and has started life Stateside well so far. But over the last few days Liverpool fans have been treated to an avalanche of Gerrard stories thanks to the serialisation of his new autobiography, My Story, in the Daily Mail.
He’s covered everything from ‘the slip’ and his hatred of Manchester United to his thoughts on that red card against the Red Devils last season.

But he’s also revealed a little nugget of information about one particularly nasty-sounding injury.
Playing against the Cherries in the FA Cup, the Liverpool star went to close down his opponent only for the Bournemouth player to smash the ball into Gerrard’s privates.
As for what happened next, let’s leave it to Gerrard to explain.
“The magic of the FA Cup was bloodied on the day my penis was cut and then stitched shut on an unromantic afternoon in Bournemouth last year,” Gerrard wrote.
“It was eye-watering. I tried to close down a winger to block his cross but felt a stinging in my privates. I thought ’S**t - that doesn’t feel right! It was stinging like f***!’
“The gash looked pretty bad, right across the middle. There was plenty of blood. I needed four stitches and the lads were absolutely p*ssing themselves.”
Gerrard's old side will be looking for three points when they travel to Manchester United later today in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers will be without Coutinho after the Brazilian's red card against West Ham, but in more positive news it also looks like United captain Wayne Rooney will miss out too.
What do you think Liverpool fans - will the Reds get a result at Old Trafford today?
