Espanyol wasted a great chance to go joint-top of the Primera Liga and also missed out on a fifth straight win following an entertaining 2-2 draw away to Real Mallorca.

Venezuela midfielder Juan Arango gave the islanders an early lead, but then also scored at the wrong end before Espanyol captain Raul Tamudo swung the game in the visitors´ favour from the penalty spot midway through the first half.

But after both sides had been reduced to 10 men as Sergio Ballesteros and Clemente Rodriguez saw red, Dani Guiza scored a second-half equaliser to earn Mallorca a well-deserved point.
