Tottenham were on the verge of announcing Martin Jol´s departure as boss following the 2-1 UEFA Cup defeat to Getafe.

Jol has appeared to be on borrowed time since the infamous meeting with Juande Ramos in the first week of the campaign and reports emerged during the defeat at White Hart Lane that the Dutchman was set to leave.

Former Spurs boss David Pleat has described the meeting with club officials and Ramos as "a tragic day", with some bookmakers now refusing to take bets on the Sevilla coach becoming Jol´s successor.
